| In a repeat of the 2002 vintage, weather conditions in the lead up to harvest were unseasonably cool. This allowed for perfect ripening conditions. The months of February and March brought more normal summer weather patterns, remaining warm and dry. With such perfect weather conditions, the grapes were able to be harvested at optimal flavour ripeness, resulting in wines that show excellent colour and varietal definition. Merlot has been strategically planted with specifically grafted vines from our nursery, on low vigour and well-drained sites. Careful irrigation control and detailed pruning promotes well-balanced vine canopies to maintain appropriate crop levels and ensure fruit is not overexposed and thereby maximising fruit quality. Oxford Landing FactWe individualise our Merlot blocks as determined by the root stocks to maximise their flavour variation and complexity. Different root stocks will reach flavour heights at different times over three or more weeks during ripening. This diversity adds to the complexity and depth in the final wine. |
